Sacred space for your inner child + a freebie for you.

No matter how many trips around the Sun we experience, if there’s someone who has zero concern about age, it’s our inner child.

The older we get, it might seem “grown up” to dismiss or deny the many qualities and experiences that are natural to our inner child. Whether we were given safe space to express and embody these qualities in our actual childhood or not.

Things like;

Day-dreaming; and seeing the value in that.

Using our imagination; as a deliberate visioning tool for tuning into what we do want.

Having fun; we’re talking authentic fun versus activities that numb our senses or mask how we truly feel. This includes having fun being yourself.

Making art; allowing our inner world to communicate with us (via any medium that calls us).

Being curious; open to the new and eager to grow and expand.

Quiet time; as one way to regulate emotions, which can show up as a nap or ‘me-time’.

Being creative; exercising creativity as self-empowering expression.

Inspired movement; being in tune with your body and what it needs.

Play; an uplifting way to integrate and embody more of who you really are as it engages our physical being while simultaneously stimulating our senses.

And more.

Your inner child has an innate connection to all of this; day-dreaming, imagination, fun, art-making, curiosity, quiet time, creativity, movement and play – and a natural knowing of how to connect with each.

Check in with how many of these you recognise as being in your childhood.

How many of these are in your life right now?

The other night inspired movement showed up for me as as a need to lay down on my dining room floor and be still for a few minutes. I had a few things to do before bed but in the same moment I felt ready for sleep. The next best thing felt like being on the floor, so that’s exactly what I did. I could have talked myself out of it, said “That’s ridiculous!” or completely ignored the thought. It’s not my usual place to lay down in Shavasana (a yoga pose for relaxation), but my body was saying this is what I am needing right now.

Did it feel silly?

Did it matter if it felt silly?

I did it anyway.

And a few minutes later I felt so much better.

Without feeling ashamed or belittling myself that that was what I need in the moment.

As grown-ups even when we connect or have a conscious connection to qualities and experiences that are natural for our inner child (whether they were in our actual childhood or not), we tend to carry these heavier emotions such as guilt, shame, unworthiness or inadequacy, and other judgements along for the ride.

When we allow space for what we want to express, it allows space for what our inner child wants to express too. And vice versa.

Being you is a vital nectar.

Being you is vital nectar.

This sentence is really lighting up for me right now. It birthed out while I was writing this poem.

I love how the interpretation of this sentence shifts depending on which word you emphasise.

Being you is vital nectar.

You are the only you on Mama Earth. One in billions. An embodied miracle. When you move in alignment with who you are, you are in the widest receiving mode of all that you desire to be, do, say, have, feel and experience.

Being you is vital nectar.

There are a gazillion other things you could be DOING other than BEING you. Like resisting, dismissing, suppressing, avoiding, belittling, judging, stifling, squashing, ignoring, denying, limiting, blocking, doubting, sabotaging or any other ING that turns your ancient yet ever-expanding star-dusted light way way down.

Being you is vital nectar.

Vital = essential. When wellness is essential to you, being you is essential to your wellness.

Being you is vital nectar.

It is the highest quality of personalised life-enhancing fuel in the entire Universe when you allow yourself to be who you are. It’s soul-nourishing balm. It’s a potent and powerful elixir for your best-feeling self and life.

As you go about your week, may you create an abundance of vital nectar.

And how to do that?

Be you.

Notes from my journal: You are a cosmic collection of stories + a freebie.

The liberation.
The balm.
To be able to ask self:
"What story am I telling myself right now?"

The liberation.
The balm.
To be able to ask self: “What story am I telling myself right now?”.

Especially when smack-bang in the middle of telling yourself a story that feels not-so-fabulous.

The moment you illuminate the story you are telling yourself, you create the space to change it. If you want to.

Imagine every thought you have ever had or will have are like stories.

That’s a lotttttttt of stories. And that’s okay.

You are a cosmic collection of stories.

You’ve got stories about who you are, and who you are not. Stories about what you can do, or can not. Stories about your mind, body, heart and energy. Stories about your life, how it’s been, how it’s going to be, how others see it, how you prefer it and all your desires about that. There’s stories about your experiences, others around you, your relationships, community, humanity, Earth and all living beings. There’s the stories about the Universe/ Source/ Mama Creator and your connection with that.

There’s stories you are in love with and stories you don’t fancy at all.

Imagine this collection of stories within you are like a grand ever-expanding library, a library you can step into.

Now imagine you pick up the nearest book, open it and hold it up to your eyes. And as long as you hold that particular book up to your eyes, everything you see is filtered through the story within its pages.

Maybe you choose this story deliberately and are completely aware you want to move through the day focused on a story all about “Everything always works out for me!” or “I can do this!”.

Or you might pick a story without noticing. Like maybe you spill your tea in the morning and zoom in on… “This is going to be another crap day” or “Bah! Everything always goes wrong for me”.

If you literally moved through your day holding a book up to your eyes, soon enough you’d be bumping into things. Which is kind of what goes on with any story you are telling yourself. Soon enough you begin to bump into things that are the same vibration as the story you are telling yourself.

Whatever the story is that has your attention, that story will draw to you things that are of the same vibration.

The more you like the story, the more the things you bump into feel good to you.

The more you don’t like the story, the more you bump into things that feel not so fabulous.

How do you know what story you are telling yourself?

Ask your brilliant self.

You can ask even when you think you don’t know the answer.
You can tune into this question during meditation.
You can work with this question as a journal prompt.

When you are liking the story you are telling, brilliant. This is a more easeful time to practice asking the question, “What story am I telling myself right now?”.

When you don’t like the story you are telling yourself, that’s usually the least likely time you want to ask, “What story am I telling myself right now?”. It’s also one of the most empowering times to ask this perspective-shifting question and change the story you are telling yourself.

You can change the story you are telling yourself.
You can choose a more empowering story.
You can align with a story that is in deeper resonance with your divine self.
You can give yourself permission to tell a better-feeling story.

If you want to.

You are a cosmic collection of stories. There is gold within each one. Be kind to you wherever you are.

Know how you feel. Your emotions are gold + a freebie for you.

Your emotions are gold.

B-r-e-a-t-h-e.

Ahh, how powerful is the breath.

To breathe means your life force is here now.

You are here, now.
Alive at this time.
Living on Mama Earth in the sacred vessel that is your physical being.

Your life force/ divine self/ who you really are is ever-streaming through YOU.

And the way you feel informs you about where you are in relation to its divine flow.

The better you feel, the more you are allowing this flow to stream through you and into your life.

The more you feel not-so-fabulous reveals there’s resistance to this flow going on, on some level.

Your being is always feeling, whether we are aware of our emotions or not.

We wake up, and feel.
We move through our day, and feel.
We hydrate our body, and feel.
We fuel our body, and feel.
We move our body, and feel.
We observe, witness, see, hear, touch, taste, smell, speak, share, receive, sense, create, imagine, love and with it all we feel.

When we are unaware of or disconnected from our emotional body, life-enhancing emotions are more likely to be surface-level or brief or something that washes over us by chance or on purpose via controlled conditions. Here the uncomfy feelings can see us engaging in denial or behaviours that mask what we actually feel.

Pushing feelings away tends to amplify them and our coping mechanisms unless we choose to face what we are feeling.

The more present with and connected we are to our emotional body, life-enhancing emotions deepen, even slow down as we allow, embrace, immerse into and bask in its sensation. Here a portal opens to greater freedom, because when we recognise our emotions for what they are – crystal clear guidance on where we are at – it loosens any grip on conditions to change before we can change how we feel. Uncomfy feelings are more likely to be met with self-inquiry, and tend not to run amok (for too long!) before we choose to check in with self.

Being present with how you feel is a daily practice.

What if you knew it’s okay to oscillate between knowing what you feel and feeling like you really don’t know?

What if you knew there is no right or wrong way to feel?

What if you knew there are no good or bad emotions?

Every emotion lets you know where you are in relation to who you really are and what you truly desire.

Every emotion.

Your emotions are gold.

Here is a practice to nurture the wild precious treasure that are your emotions:

Allow what you feel to be what you feel, without trying to change it or needing to take action. Let how you feel inform you of where you are; aligned and in resonance with your divine self or out of alignment? Let it inform you of where you are rather than using your emotions as a call-to-do-something. There are times when breathing, the simple act of bringing your focus to your breath is more powerful in softening an uncomfy emotion than reacting to it via an action.

Allow what you feel to be what you feel, sans self-judgement.

The more you know how you feel, the more deliberate you become in how you hold any emotion rather than feeling like an emotion has a hold over you.
